Miami

SMART SET Yes, Miami is about fun in the sun, but we also have a brain, you know. From celebrations for fledgling authors and literary legends alike to celebs in town to salute star students, Miami played host to the literati as well as the glitterati. Meanwhile on South Beach, club mainstays filled up while newcomers opened their doors to party-hungry revelers.

LOS ANGELES

LOG ONTO SPIKE The launch party for Spike Networks' online media empire, celebrating the first 24-7 global Internet radio station and its mix of music, news, and chat shows, drew Hollywood's hippest futurists. Stars and industry heavies alike chowed on food from Patina, danced to tunes by Solar Twins, and geared up for the millennium and all it promises.

IN LIVING COLOR Celebs turned up at Hollywood's poshest parties, premieres, and polo matches in the splashiest shades around. From popular pink pashminas (like that worn on the Willis-less Demi Moore) to the vivid rock 'n' roll hues of Keith Richards and his own honky tonk woman Patti Hansen, color was definitely this seasonŐs new black.
